Who we are and our role as data controller

mediariffx operates this website as the data controller under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We provide specialised training courses focused on live production decks, control rooms, multi-camera switching, live broadcasting techniques, real-time video operation and professional management of television and streaming productions. Our registered address is Beaconsfield Studios, Station Road, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 1LG. For any privacy enquiries please contact us at [email protected] or 01494 671234.

Scope of this privacy notice

This notice applies to all visitors to our site, individuals who enquire about or enrol on our courses, and anyone whose personal data we process in the course of our commercial activities in the United Kingdom. It does not cover third-party websites linked from our pages.

Categories of personal data we collect and their sources

We collect identification details such as name and title, contact information including email address and telephone number, professional details such as job title and employer, course enrolment and payment records, technical data including IP address and browser type, and any information you voluntarily provide through our contact form. Data is obtained directly from you, from your employer where they arrange training, and automatically through cookies and server logs.

Purposes of processing and legal bases

We process your data to respond to enquiries and provide course information on the basis of legitimate interest and, where you have given consent, to send marketing communications. Enrolment and payment processing rely on contract necessity. We maintain records to meet legal obligations such as tax and consumer protection rules. Analytics help us improve our site under legitimate interest. Each purpose is limited to what is necessary.

Requirement to provide data and consequences of refusal

Supplying contact and enrolment information is necessary to receive course details or complete registration. If you do not provide required data we may be unable to respond to your enquiry, confirm your place on a course or process payments. You remain free to browse the site without providing personal information beyond what is collected automatically.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for essential site functions, performance measurement and, with your consent, for marketing. Details of the cookies we set, their purposes and how to manage them are explained in our separate Cookie Policy which you can access via the site-wide cookie banner.

Recipients of your data and our service providers

We share data with carefully selected processors including payment providers, email delivery services, hosting companies and course administration platforms. These parties are bound by contracts requiring them to protect your data and use it only for the agreed purposes. We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect our legal rights.

International transfers of personal data

Some of our service providers are located outside the United Kingdom. Where transfers occur we rely on UK adequacy regulations or appropriate safeguards such as the International Data Transfer Agreement to ensure your data receives an equivalent level of protection.

Data retention periods

Enquiry records are kept for up to two years. Course enrolment and payment data are retained for six years to meet accounting and tax obligations. Marketing consent records are kept until you withdraw consent. Technical logs are deleted after twelve months. We review retention regularly and securely delete data no longer required.

Security measures and data minimisation

We apply technical and organisational measures including encryption in transit, access controls and regular security reviews. We collect only the data necessary for each purpose and encourage staff to minimise processing. While we take reasonable steps we cannot guarantee absolute security against all threats.

Your data protection rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, request rectification or erasure, restrict or object to processing, and receive your data in a portable format. To exercise any right please write to [email protected] or 01494 671234 providing sufficient information for us to verify your identity. We will respond within one month.

Withdrawing consent and objecting to marketing

Where processing is based on consent you may withdraw it at any time by contacting us or using the unsubscribe link in emails. You may also object to direct marketing or profiling at any time; we will cease such processing upon receipt of your objection.

Right to complain to the supervisory authority

If you believe we have not handled your data correctly you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK supervisory authority. Contact details and guidance are available on the ICO website.

Children and age restrictions

Our courses are intended for adults aged eighteen and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that data from a child has been provided we will delete it promptly.

Automated decision-making and profiling

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. Any analytics we perform are for internal improvement only and do not result in automated decisions about individuals.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in law or our practices. The current version will always be posted on this page with the last updated date shown at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted for a reasonable period.
